I think I'm remembering that my trimmer once said iodine spray??? Anything I suppose to kill the infection. You buy it and mix with water and put in a sprayer...I think

Using Debrisol to remove all the dead stuff and then treating with mouthwash mixed with teatree oil. Works a treat.

Undiluted tea tree oil works for my horse.

I've finally overcome a rather recalcitrant case of thrush in the yetti's feet with iodine spray - tried most things but finally on top of it

The best option is peroxide as it oxidises the bacteria (which kills it because its anaerobic)
ACV also does the same thing but is weaker so it will work on small amounts of thrush but might take too long to get to the core of the issue.

Bleach can be effective in small doses although the bacteria can become resistant to it - it has something to do with the way the bacterial proteins react with the bleach which ironically causes the bacteria to shield itself and the treatment doesn't work so well.

I imagine Tea Tree Oil would work to some extent but I would be more inclined to use it as a preventative.

Just my 2 cents

We have a case of persistent thrush in the front hooves of one of our lads. What ratio do you mix the teatree oil and mouthwash? We have tried bleach, lime etc with no success

I've used both NT dry/thrush buster and tea tree oil with success.  :)

The NT dry/thrush buster can be purchased from Hiscocks.

We just got rid of a terrible case of persistent frog thrush on one of the boys with betadine spray...you can just buy from the chemist thoroughly clean the hoof then spray on and then hold hoof up for about 1 min to ensure it gets into the crevices and put the horse in a paddock with no dam or really muddy areas, do this every day until there is no sign of the thrush, and then use as a mix of two tablespoons of bleach in a spray bottle of water on the soles of the hooves during wet weather as a preventative measure once the thrush has cleared.

Phenyl - a very strong disinfectant available from Bunnings for $4 for a 1L bottle. It is the only thing that was able to kill the bug of a bad case of white line disease and also works an absolute treat on seedy toe and thrush. It is commonly marketed as wheelie bin cleaner.

I've used Apple Cider Vinegar with good results. Kero will kill anything. Horrible stuff.. Using metho/kero is a very cheap, old school alternative. ACV is much nicer on the foot I would think..

Clean out the hoof, squirt peroxide in affected areas, then when dry follow up with a good quirt of Betadine. Daily until it goes. I'm guessing you can't keep them dry...
