I have contacted a few but are busy/don't chat on line.
It's hard to imagine people do not get on line and spend time yacking on forums like us..but seems thats the case .
We have a few little shows coming up-Harden and Grenfell. There will be a couple of owners at each I think,so about a doz donkeys i hope.
Britain and USA ,New Zealand have either higher population and/or shorter distances to travel. The problem here is that the active donkey owners are scattered all over OZ,and not enough in one area yet to create a critical mass.
We did however had 30 donkey entered in Canbera Royal last year, 3 did not make it on the day/s.
There was a 'talk to owners meet the donkeys" on Friday, numerous halter classes on Sat,Perfomance/novelty classes Sunday.
The harness class had 2 minis and a 11hh donkey..next year we hope to enter too,so it is growing again.
I am a bit of a donkey history buff-and have done research-the earliest donkey shown i found was in late 1800's at Sydney Royal.
One was imported by an owner of Cobb&Co,of Bathurst. He was registered as Napoleon, but there are several Napoleons in the USA studbook from that time, variously called Napolean or Imported Napolean.Could have been the same animal or son of...amazes me the records in USA goes back that far.He wanted to breed mules for the dry sections .One jenny of mine-on her maternal sire's side goes back to 1830's
